I was immediately enticed by the title and the photos on the front cover because who doesn't yearn for a better organized refrigerator? Yet, I found it hard to approach this book as there was a certain amount of guilt involved and a certain amount of self-reflection。 Not pretty! This is a book I'd give to someone starting out on their own, or to a couple just starting life together。 This is the time for forming good habits。 So, as a gift, thumbs up! I needed the refresher on how to store each vegetable to avoid waste。Photos were lovely but I did not see any recipes that I would bother trying。 I would prefer just having the produce fresh and raw。

I have mixed feelings while reading this because a part of my idolization of the perfect fridge, as part of my want for a perfect life。 Having grown up in chaos, the want for something like this is not uncommon。 But in reality, it is unattainable to most people。 Even the guidance given in this book isn't enough to make it feasible for most people。 Whether due to money or due to a lack of spoons。 I have mixed feelings while reading this because a part of my idolization of the perfect fridge, as part of my want for a perfect life。 Having grown up in chaos, the want for something like this is not uncommon。 But in reality, it is unattainable to most people。 Even the guidance given in this book isn't enough to make it feasible for most people。 Whether due to money or due to a lack of spoons。 。。。more

I just love this book。 There's something immensely satisfying about an orderly, colourful fridge。 Definitely inspired me to utilise my many glass jars to display fresh fruit and veg in appetising ready-to-snack-on ways。I also valued the technical lesson on how a fridge basically works (useful if you want to prolong the shelf-life of your produce), as well as the lovely vegan recipes at the end。 But most of all, of course, I loved the suggestions on how to make my fridge look like the beautiful p I just love this book。 There's something immensely satisfying about an orderly, colourful fridge。 Definitely inspired me to utilise my many glass jars to display fresh fruit and veg in appetising ready-to-snack-on ways。I also valued the technical lesson on how a fridge basically works (useful if you want to prolong the shelf-life of your produce), as well as the lovely vegan recipes at the end。 But most of all, of course, I loved the suggestions on how to make my fridge look like the beautiful photos。 。。。more

Really nice book - the organization is almost in line with the home edit。 There are some recipes as well but is mainly the organization and setup of the common types of fridges。

Who doesn't need help organizing their refrigerator? I loved that Kristen Hong took time to explain how a fridge works and how we can utilize it in the best way possible。 It was interesting because I have not taken any notice of how my fridge works。 It keeps things cool, and that was about it。 Not anymore! What sorcery is this? I was reading in the car and the husband asked why I gasped。 I said that I was reading a book about refrigerators。 He was immediately intrigued and demanded that I start reading out loud。 I went back to the beginning and read the history section for him。 He was quite enjoying it too。 We might be strange。 After all the history and science you get sections on what are the best kinds of containers to use to store food in refrigerators and then a useful list of how to store all kinds of foods。 (This is a vegan book so don't look for any tips on meat or dairy。) The author discusses different lifestyles how each type of person might want to make their fridge work best for them。After this is a recipe section with information featured on how to make things ahead and store it best。 The author follows the Eat to Live diet by Dr。 Joel Fuhrman。 I'd read this book in the past。 Fridge Love reminded me of how much that way of eating appeals to me。 Basically, it is a high fresh fruit and vegetable diet with minimal grains and low/no oil。 I've been eating horribly lately。 I haven't been meal prepping (see lack of space in fridge) and have been eating takeout because it was easier。 This inspired me to get started on making gigantic salads to take to work again for lunch。 As of this writing, it has been 4 days and I'm down 7 lbs。 Reading this didn't fix my fridge problems entirely but I'm taking steps。 I ordered a mini fridge for one person who lives here so she can keep a lot of her food in her room to free up some space。 I bowed to the inevitability of space problems and will go shopping twice a week for fresh produce to try to have more room/better airflow。 I'm loving the diet and seeing results。 I'm looking forward to making several of the recipes。 This is a book that I think I will also buy in a paper version。 The section on how to store different foods is a great reference guide that I can see myself referring to often。 This review was originally posted on Based On A True Story 。。。more

I believe constantly learning about this sort of thing helps improve lifestyle choices and habits。 I would definitely suggest this one for all homeowners or those in charge of buying/organizing food for their home。 。。。more

I picked up Fridge Love on a whim, enticed by the soothing photos of organized fridges on the cover。 Kristen Hong in Instagram-famous for photos of her fridge where fruit and vegetables stored neatly in clear containers are lined up as a rainbow。 These are kind of Instagram photos that make you feel calmer just by looking at them, right before the anxiety kicks in--”what do I need to do to make my fridge look like that?” In this book, she explains what to do。This is more than a vegan meal prep b I picked up Fridge Love on a whim, enticed by the soothing photos of organized fridges on the cover。 Kristen Hong in Instagram-famous for photos of her fridge where fruit and vegetables stored neatly in clear containers are lined up as a rainbow。 These are kind of Instagram photos that make you feel calmer just by looking at them, right before the anxiety kicks in--”what do I need to do to make my fridge look like that?” In this book, she explains what to do。This is more than a vegan meal prep book; it really does contain a lot of information about refrigerators。 Hong covers the history of refrigeration, the types of cooling systems in refrigerators, and how air flow in each type determines how you should store your food。 I honestly thought I knew everything that would be useful to know about putting produce in the fridge and Hong proved me wrong。 In some cases, she provided the scientific reasoning for hunches I had and in other cases she disproved some long held assumptions of mine。 If you are in the market for a new fridge or think that your current one is not doing all that it can, this book is for you。 And don’t worry if you think it doesn’t apply to you because you don’t have a $3000 French-door fridge。 She explains how to successfully use the old cheap fridge that came with your apartment just as well。While I don’t like that this book is based around the nebulous concept of “improving” yourself, her attitude is so practical that it doesn’t feel like “diet” talk。 She is frank about how much time and effort those beautiful fridges on Instagram take her。 When giving advice, she always gives multiple paths for how to match your goals to your values and your actual life, instead of impossible aspirations。 If you can do nothing else, she provides some very basic starting points to meal prepping and fridge management, such as cutting up snacking vegetables and putting them at eye level or making overnight oats and nothing else。 While she herself follows the Fuhrman nutritarian diet, her approach is to meet the reader where they are。The big question for a book like this--would I buy it? In this case, I think I will。 The recipes, while appropriate for someone new to veganism, are not useful to me, but the reference sections are。 When I get groceries each week, I often search the internet for how to store each vegetable。 It would be nice to have such a thorough countertop reference instead。 My fridge is also on its last legs and one day I will need a new one。 Her breakdown of all the types of fridges and how useful the various amenities are in real life will be helpful when the day comes that I have to finally face the wall of steel in Lowes。 This book fills a need I wasn’t even sure I had until reading it。 。。。more
